Project Demonstration Summary

Final Summary of Project
EDAC 655
Andjulon Richardson

·      Introduction
o   Main purpose of the project was to gain a better understanding and appreciation for continuing professional education. The emphasis of the project was to essentially build upon the information that had previously been obtained throughout the semester, and to apply what was learned to future assignments.
o   There were two topics within Continuing Professional Education that were focused on for this project:
§  Issues in CPE
§  Technology of CPE
·      Many of the points that were raised with regards to the technologies of CPE could be applied to the issues in CPE.
o   Based on the analysis of literature conducted, there were a couple main themes that seemed to resonate:
§  Common issues in CPE (which would include time constraints and costs of providing CPE.)
§  Lack of adaptability of curriculum with different individuals.
§  There is also a need for increased collaboration among educators and students.
§  Professionals now need to have a multi-faceted approach to learning. (No more specializing in one area)
o   There were also examples of technology that play an important role in CPE. However, there were points that needed to be raised.
§  Age gap associated with those who embraced technology and those who do not.
§  There is also a distinction between those who are tech savvy and those who may have difficulty utilizing technology.
o   However, despite the issues raised, technology has been said to have its benefits.
§  Cost effectiveness
§  Convenience
§  Ability to be customized
o   Based on research conducted, there are two main issues within CPE, and two technologies that are actively being employed.
§  Issues
·      Time Constraints
·      Costs
§  Technologies
·      Video Conferencing
·      Cloud Computing
o   As one could imagine, the issues in CPE could possibly be lessened by implementing the technologies used in CPE.
§  Video conferencing could lessen the burden of time constraints by allowing individuals to meet virtually anywhere.
§  Cloud computing solutions, such as Google Docs, can provide a cost effective means of running a business.
o   Based on research and personal opinion, I see CPE in the future as the following:
§  The technologies that will play a significant role in continuing professional education will be increasingly cloud based technologies as well as web conferencing technologies.
§  The issues that will play a significant role in continuing professional education will continue to include time constraints and cost.
§  The technologies and issues that will have an affect in the future will more likely than not correlate with one another.
o   Based on reviews from current CPE professionals, there were two main areas of improvement that could be applied to my envisioning of CPE.
§  Could go a little further into the change that would appear, such as how our job market would be affected by the increase of the cost of education
§  Take a closer look at the pros and cons of CPE

Project Demonstration

Hello All,

Here is the link to my project demonstration via Google Drive. In order to download and view the powerpoint presentation, you will need to click the link, click download, then download anyway. This is due to the fact that the presentation file is too large, and must be downloaded rather than viewed. Also, if the audio does not automatically play, you can click the icon on each slide, and the audio will play. Enjoy!

Envisioning Evaluation

Envisioning Evaluation

Professional Review #1

1.     Role and position- Director of Career Services
a.     I work as the Director of Career Services, overseeing the professional development of current students. I set up workshops in order to assist students in developing their skills in a variety of fields. I am also in charge of organizing and facilitating career days to give potential employers and students an opportunity to meet and network. I also meet with current students to assess their educational and career goals, and work with them to determine a suitable plan to reach those goals.
2.     What did you like most about the envisioning?
a.     I feel Andjulon’s envisioning was very insightful and accurate. Andjulon states that business professionals will increase the cost of education in order to prevent everyone from receiving the same education. If you consider the different tiers of education (i.e. ivy league schools, public schools, community colleges, private schools), you have different stereotypes associated with each. If education were readily available then the value of attending an Ivy League school versus a community college would deteriorate. This would ultimately devalue the knowledge and status associated with a college education.
3.     What could be improved? Why and how?
a.     Andjulon’s envisioning was very well written, but he could choose to go a little further into the change that would appear, such as how our job market would be affected by the increase of the cost of education, for example.
Response
The evaluation previously given provided very good analysis and points that could be improved upon. The one major point that was given dealt with the need to elaborate on the change that I saw would take place. I think that this is a very good point to make, and is critical to the envisioning of continuing professional education. Therefore, I believe that is necessary to delve a little deeper into exactly what the world is going to look like in the future. This is quite different from simply stating what changes I believe will take place in the future. For example, if I were to state that the increase in cost of CPE would prevent those from participating, I need to paint a picture as to what that is going to look like. One excerpt may look like this:
“ With rising costs of the activities associated with continuing professional education, we could begin to see fewer individuals with the ability to participate. The middle to lower class citizens will soon face the conundrum of spending their money on sustaining their way of living, or investing money into continuing professional education, which may very well help improve their standard of living. As for the middle-upper to upper class, these individuals will continue to have the best resources and education available.”
This is just one example of how I could paint a better picture or provide more depth of what I envision for continuing professional education. This I believe will help readers see what I see, and provide a better analysis of what I envision the future of CPE to be.

Professional Review #2

1.     Role and position- Deputy Director of CASA/Victim Assistance, Adjunct Faculty-Intro to Business/ Ivy Tech

2.     What did you like most about the envisioning?
a.     Mr. Richardson’s envisioning on CPE is understandable. The future of CPE is in great demand. Professionals are being faced with upcoming students that are staying in school to reach that top goal of education. The convenience of web conferencing is on the rise. Mr. Richardson’s envision on the cost and effect is correct. The market is in such a high demand that individuals are being “weaned out”.
3.     What could be improved? Why and how?
a.     If there are any improvements to Mr. Richardson’s envisions should be to take a closer look at the pros and cons of CPE.
Response
The second professional review provided a good point as to how I could improve my envisioning of continuing professional education. Incorporating the benefits and drawbacks of continuing professional education could provide a richer analysis and give the reader a thorough look into what I believe the future of CPE to be. I have to admit that at first I was reserved when confronted with the task of finding drawbacks to continuing professional education, because I strong supporter of CPE. However, from reading the evaluation, I came away with a different take from it. I believe that by providing the pros and cons of continuing professional education, and incorporating those into what I envision CPE to be in the future, this shows an unbiased look into my rationales. If I give the view of what I believe continuing professional education will look in the future from the standpoint that CPE only has benefits, readers may be wary of considering my rationales, citing that I have a biased opinion.
